A Site Review for Continuing Accreditation of St. Joseph’s College of Nursing Associate Degree Nursing Program

SYRACUSE – St. Joseph’s College of Nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center is pleased to announce the receipt of a $1-million gift from the estate of alumna Josephine Mastrangelo Eagan. The unrestricted gift represents the largest gift given from Ms. Eagan’s estate and the largest gift ever received by the College of Nursing.

Ms. Eagan was born in Rome, New York and graduated from the St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She then received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College and practiced nursing in California before marrying and moving to Detroit, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

“Latest statistics show that by 2025, our country could experience a shortage of 260,000 registered nurses,” said Marianne Markowitz, dean of the college. “This generous gift enables St. Joseph’s College of Nursing to build upon its already competitive and innovative nursing programs as we prepare registered nurses for the future.
